Decks
The following are guidelines we use when working on your deck:
Before pressure washing, most decks need to be rejuvenated and bleached. We do not use standard household bleach, but a specially formulated preparation that is right for the job. The biodegradable foam is applied to the surface and allowed to soak in to remove mildew, stains, dirt, algae and grime. There are no acids or chlorine bleach and it will not damage the grass and plants. This will allow a maximum performance of wood water repellants, stains and preservative properties.
Careful and thorough power washing will remove dirt, mildew, mold, algae, most graying and most stains. Power washing is an extremely important part of the surface preparation. The right pressure, spray, tip, water flow and distance from deck surfaces all influence the final results. We want those results to be perfect.
Power and hand sanding may be necessary to remove grayed wood, stains not removed from power washing, rough wood and other raised grain. Different types of sanders are used for various types of surfaces. Obvious protruding nails are tapped back in and loose boards are re-nailed. Repair work may be necessary and can be arranged. All dust must be thoroughly removed (usually with powerful blower).
